I started out in accounting. I graduated with an accounting degree and worked as an accountant for about two years and decided ... I had a friend who was going to dental school and I decided to look into it, I decided that's what I wanted to do, so my wife and I made the decision and I took the prerequisites and jumped into dental school.
I went to Brigham University in Provo for my undergrad. I worked as an accountant for a couple of years for a foods company and for a CPA firm. And then, I applied to a bunch of different dental schools and I ended up going to the University of Louisville, which I loved. It gave me a little taste of the South and yeah, we had a great time. Loved it. Never had humidity like Louisville.
As far as the newer things that I've learned recently, the first one is the LANAP system, which is a laser procedure for gum surgery. Basically, you go in and it eradicates bacteria and it helps to grow bone where the bone has been destroyed by gum disease. That's probably one of the more exciting things I feel like has been something we can present to our patients for a big benefit.
Everything changes and it evolves, and as you stay on that learning curve, you find those things that are the best for your patient. Then, you can always benefit those patients that have certain needs that can benefit them specifically, and I think that's the best thing about continuing education.
I love watching the patients grow up. I see kids and families that I've known for 20 years now, and it's fun to see them grow up, have kids, and see the next generation come up. You kind of take a little pride in knowing them and knowing about them. I see patients all the time in the store, and I can tell you what tooth I worked on.
I love the patients because they bring us stuff, but also we provide them a level of service that I think they appreciate and enjoy. But they also enrich our lives by sharing with us things about their life and things about what they do. Honestly it is, it's the patients and seeing them every day, and it's fun to talk and catch up with them. I feel like they're my friends, I really do.
Dr. Jeff Morgan didn’t take the usual route to dentistry. After graduating from Brigham Young University in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, he worked for a food distribution company as their accountant. However, he realized he missed having more interaction with people at work. After deciding to pursue dentistry, Dr. Morgan returned to school for two years to complete his prerequisites for dental school.
He was lucky enough to have a supportive wife who did not mind moving around the country for his education. They packed up their two young children and headed for the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He also earned valuable experience during a dental externship at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. After four years of dental school and one more child, Dr. Morgan and his family came to the Tri-Cities so he could work with Dr. Harry Keyes at Dental West.
Two years and one more child later, Dr. Morgan opened his own practice, Grandridge Dental, in 2001. He has been here ever since, providing excellent dental care to our patients!
The same traits that led him to first pursue accounting, his methodical attention to detail and a mind that seeks efficient solutions to problems, serve him well in dentistry too. He also provides dental services for missionaries through the Smiles for Latin America program.
Dr. Morgan especially enjoys using some of the latest technologies, like lasers, for his patients’ care. His professional associations and certifications include:
- American Dental Association
- Washington State Dental Association
- Benton-Franklin Counties Dental Society
- International Dental Implant Association
- AMD Laser Certified
- Eagle Scout
Away from the office, Dr. Morgan enjoys reading, boating, skiing, and golfing. He considers the Tri-Cities a wonderful community to raise a family and really enjoys living here. He also appreciates his incredible staff and great patients.
